According to the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, methamphetamine was the primary drug of abuse at the time of treatment admission in Sacramento County. There are also at least three drug courts in Sacramento that have been operating for at least two years or more.
As
Sacramentos first community-wide anti-drug coalition, Project Help is
dedicated to creating a drug-free and alcohol-safe community. Some of the
coalitions goals include the following: unite the community in its
prevention, treatment and enforcement efforts; educate the community about
substance abuse and its dangers; increase the safety of citizens by reducing
alcohol and other drug abuse and related crime and violence; and improve
coordination among public and private entities to address substance abuse in
Sacramento County.
Methamphetamine availability continues in and around Sacramento along with other major drugs such as cocaine and crack, marijuana, heroin, LSD, MDMA and other club drugs and hallucinogens. There were 349 juvenile and 805 adult misdemeanor drug arrests for marijuana in Sacramento County during 2005, along with 246 juvenile and 6,351 adult felony drug arrests that same year. As of January 31, 2007, there were 3,191 offenders within California State Prison Sacramento.
